ActionAid Ghana has launched the Uplifting the Voices of Mining Communities (VOICES) Project, a 24-month initiative aimed at strengthening the participation and accountability of mining-affected communities in mineral governance.
The project was officially launched in Kumasi on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, with funding from Comic Relief.
According to ActionAid Ghana, the project seeks to strengthen the voice, agency and collective power of communities affected by mining while supporting more inclusive, accountable and environmentally responsible mineral governance.
In Ghana, the project will be implemented in mining-affected communities in Mfantseman, Ahafo Ano South, Asutifi North and Talensi.
The VOICES Project runs from August 2026 to May 2028 and is being implemented across Ghana, Malawi and Senegal.
ActionAid Ghana said the initiative would support mining-affected communities to participate more meaningfully in discussions and processes concerning mineral governance and accountability.
The project forms part of efforts to strengthen community participation in decisions affecting areas where mining activities take place, particularly around governance and environmental responsibility.
