Lands Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (Second from right)
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has reaffirmed Government’s commitment to swiftly resolving the conflict between Asanko Gold Ghana Limited and surrounding communities in the Amansie South District.
The assurance came during his working visit to the company’s site on Tuesday, 16th September 2025, following a violent confrontation on September 9th that left one person dead and caused extensive damage to property and equipment estimated at over US$33 million.
The clash erupted after local residents, citing frustrations over unmet community development expectations, encroached on the mining concession.

Military personnel were deployed to restore order, but the intervention tragically led to the death of a local Assembly Member.
Addressing the leadership of Asanko Gold, Buah underscored the importance of peaceful coexistence between the company and host communities.
“As a government, we are committed to getting to the bottom of this matter and ensuring that such a tragedy is not repeated. Dialogue and mutual understanding must prevail,” he said.

The Minister further urged the company to strictly adhere to mining regulations and to make community engagement and development central to its operations.
As a demonstration of Government’s concern, Buah visited the bereaved family to commiserate with them, assuring that a thorough and transparent investigation will be conducted to bring justice and restore trust.

He was accompanied by a high-level delegation including the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, Mr. Isaac Tandoh; Advisor to the Minister, Prof. J.S.Y. Kuma; the Chief Inspector of Mines, Mr. Kofi Adjei; Director of Communications of the Ministry, Ms. Mawusi Mawuenyefia; and the National Coordinator of the Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP), Ing. Frank Asare.
