The Canoe and Fishing Gear Owners Association of Ghana (CaFGOAG) is set to launch a landmark National Fishers Welfare Scheme to enhance the wellbeing and resilience of fishers across the country.
The launch, scheduled for Friday, October 3, 2025, at Apo-Bakano, Shama, will be performed by the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Emelia Arthur.
The scheme offers medical and emergency support, livelihood assistance, and contribution refunds that serve as a savings plan for registered fishers.
As part of the launch, fishing nets will also be distributed to support artisanal fishers and boost productivity.
CaFGOAG says the initiative represents a major step toward securing the welfare of Ghana’s fishing communities and aligns with national efforts to promote social protection and sustainable fisheries management.
The event will bring together key stakeholders, including representatives from the Fisheries Commission, traditional fishing communities, and development partners.
