The Water Resources Commission (WRC) has announced that operators of the Bagré Dam in Burkina Faso may begin a controlled spillage of water from Tuesday, (August 11) if the reservoir reaches its trigger level.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, the WRC said it had received an update from SONABEL, the operators of the Bagré Dam, indicating that the reservoir water level stood at 232.93 metres as of August 4, with the dam 62.77 per cent full.
According to the Commission, SONABEL plans to commence controlled water spillage if the reservoir water level rises to 234.00 metres.
The WRC has therefore advised residents and communities along the White Volta River and adjoining areas to take the necessary precautions and comply with safety directives issued by their respective Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, as well as other relevant state agencies.
The Commission said it would continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
