Court orders Funny Face to undergo psychiatric evaluation

The Ofaakor Circuit Court Presided by His Honour Ebenezer Osei Darko has ordered for Psychiatric Evaluation for comedian Benson Nana Yaw Oduro Boateng popularly known as Funny Face.

The move according to the court is to make sure the comedian is mentally fit to pave way for his trial as he doesn’t appear normal but depressed.

The comedian is facing a charge of Discharging Firearms without Authority as he is alleged to have fired four gun shots from a pump gun at a drinking spot last Wednesday at Millennium City in Kasoa during an altercation with a drinking bar attendant.

The comedian was subsequently arrested albeit not without application of force by the police as even the comedian in a viral video accused the police of brutalising him in the arrest process.

The circuit court took into cognisance a plea by lawyers of Fanny Face who posited that their client is psychologically challenged in undergoing the trial thereby pleading for clemency and psychological help for their client instead of punitive sentence.

The court agreed to their plea and the trial judge therefore ordered for the comedian to be subjected to psychiatric evaluation for two weeks at the Accra Psychiatric Hospital before being made to face trial thereby not unnecessarily trampling on any right of the accused with regard to fair trial.

The comedians plea was therefore not taken until he is mentally fit to plead to the office either guilty or not guilty.
