The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG)has justified its decision to take parts of Lower Manya and Yilo krobo off the national grid, saying it is for security reasons.
For six days, communities within the two Eastern regional municipalities have been without power, a situation residents say is affecting livelihood and businesses.
But speaking to Asaase News, the public relations officer for ECG in the region Takyiwa Mensah explained that the power distribution company cut power supply to the communities after it discovered a high rate of illegal connections to it’s transformers .
Meanwhile the Ghana Health Service is also appealing to the ECG to restore power to the affected areas as it is affecting healthcare delivery.
Management of health facilities there say they are are spending thousands of cedis daily on fuel to power generators for their operations.
