The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has undertaken a working visit to parts of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region to inspect ongoing electricity infrastructure projects aimed at improving power reliability and strengthening supply across the region.
During the tour, the Minister assessed key transmission and distribution upgrade works being implemented by the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The projects are intended to enhance stability and reliability in electricity delivery to households, businesses, and industrial users in the region.
Mr. Jinapor also inspected transformer upgrade and replacement works at the Anwomaso and Kumasi substations. According to him, the upgrades are expected to significantly improve bulk power supply capacity as part of government’s broader energy modernisation programme.
He noted that the interventions form part of a coordinated effort to strengthen the national grid and address bottlenecks affecting power distribution in key economic zones.
As part of long-term planning, the government is also working to increase generation capacity in Ghana’s middle belt by 1,000 megawatts through a combination of ongoing and planned projects. These include the AKSA Power Plant (350MW), CENIT (110MW), AMERI Power Plant (250MW), and the ARVENSIS Energy Project (380MW).
The Energy Minister said the initiatives are designed to build a more resilient, efficient, and future-ready electricity network capable of supporting industrial growth and broader economic transformation.
He reiterated government’s commitment to ensuring reliable power supply as a critical foundation for national development.
