Italian energy company Eni plans to expand its gas processing capacity in Egypt’s Western Desert through its Meleiha Phase 2 project.
The state-controlled energy group said on Tuesday that it had launched start-up activities for the development of a new gas hub within the Merged Meleiha concession.
The facility is designed to process up to 100 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, significantly increasing processing capacity and supporting growth in Egypt’s gas output, according to the company.
The project will also connect new gas production to Egypt’s existing gas infrastructure and help increase supplies available to the domestic market.
Eni is currently Egypt’s leading energy producer, with hydrocarbon production of approximately 242,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day on an equity basis in 2025.
