The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has subjected the Shakainah Ventures Limited Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) station at New Dormaa in the Bono Region to renewed public and regulatory scrutiny following the previous suspension of operations at the facility.
The EPA held a public hearing on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, to gather views from regulators, traditional authorities, community members and other stakeholders on the facility and issues surrounding its operations.
The engagement focused on public safety, environmental management, emergency preparedness, land-use considerations and regulatory compliance, as well as concerns from communities located around the facility.

The hearing was chaired by Prof. Alex Amerh Agbeshie of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR).
Representatives of the EPA Headquarters and Bono Regional Office, Land Use and Spatial Planning Authority (LUSPA), Sunyani Municipal Assembly, National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and Ghana Police Service participated in the hearing.
Traditional authorities from New Dormaa and Penkwase Low Cost, Assembly Members from the two electoral areas, community members and other interested persons also took part.
The facility had its operations suspended some years ago due to operational challenges. The latest public hearing forms part of the EPA’s regulatory and stakeholder-engagement process as the Authority considers the facility.

The EPA said the hearing was held in line with Section 24 of the Environmental Protection (Environmental Assessment) Regulations, 2025, which provides for public participation in the environmental assessment process.
Views and concerns presented during the hearing are expected to inform the EPA’s regulatory considerations regarding the LPG facility.
The process underscores the importance of public participation in decisions involving facilities with potential environmental and public-safety implications.
