Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo,
Ousted Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo has taken legal action to stop the vetting and confirmation of Justice Baffoe-Bonnie as Ghana’s next Chief Justice.
In a suit filed at the High Court, Justice Torkornoo is seeking to invalidate the work of the Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang Committee, which investigated petitions that led to her removal from office.
She argues that the committee’s proceedings and the subsequent Presidential Warrant authorising her dismissal were unconstitutional and void.
Justice Torkornoo was removed on September 1, 2025, after President John Mahama acted on the committee’s recommendation, citing misconduct and violations of constitutional provisions.
Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, who has been Acting Chief Justice since April, was formally nominated in September and is expected to face parliamentary vetting in the coming days.
