The Ministry of Finance has inaugurated the newly established Gold Board (GoldBod)Tribunal, with Finance Minister Dr Ato Forson administering the oaths of office to its first leadership team.
The tribunal, created under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025, is mandated to hear appeals arising from decisions of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), including licensing issues and disputes handled by its Dispute Resolution Committee.
It will serve as an independent appellate body whose rulings carry the same binding effect as a High Court judgment, though further appeals may be made to the Court of Appeal.

Sworn in at the ceremony were Chairperson Biadala Mortey Akpadzi and members Hamidu Mariam and Justin Pwavra Teriwajah. Their appointment marks the beginning of what government describes as a critical institution to strengthen accountability and credibility in Ghana’s gold sector.
Addressing the event, Dr. Forson stressed that the tribunal would help ensure transparency and fairness in the industry by balancing regulatory oversight with just treatment of stakeholders. He urged the new members to uphold integrity, impartiality and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

The Gold Board Tribunal is designed as a non-permanent body, convened when needed to consider appeals relating to GoldBod’s licensing and operational decisions. Its establishment reflects Ghana’s effort to modernize oversight in the gold sector and provide a credible, predictable dispute resolution mechanism.
Industry observers note that the inauguration of the tribunal is a milestone in strengthening the regulatory framework for gold mining and trading, and a signal of government’s commitment to building trust and confidence in the sector.
