The Upper East Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service has announced investigations into alleged theft and extortion claims raised in an investigative documentary titled “Theft In The Theatre” at the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga.
In a press release dated May 11, 2026, the Directorate said it had taken note of the documentary and described the allegations as serious and contrary to the disciplinary rules and ethical standards of the Ghana Health Service.
According to the statement signed by the Upper East Regional Director of Health Service, Dr. (Med) Braimah Baba Abubakari, management will investigate the issues thoroughly to establish the facts and address concerns raised in the documentary.
The Directorate stated that the investigation will focus specifically on allegations of extortion and theft, in line with the Patient’s Charter, which promotes transparency and accountability, as well as the Ghana Health Service Code of Conduct and professional ethics.
Management further appealed to the public to remain calm while investigations are ongoing and assured that updates would be provided accordingly.
