Gold Fields Ghana has hosted a high-level UK-Ghana Mining Trade Mission at its Tarkwa and Damang mines, strengthening bilateral ties and promoting collaboration in sustainable mining and innovation.
The mission, led by the UK Department for Business & Trade under the auspices of the British High Commission in Accra, included 12 senior UK government officials and business leaders from the mining and allied industries.
At Tarkwa, the delegation was welcomed by Dr Catherine Kuupol Kuutor, Mine Manager, while at Damang, they were received by Sampson Arthur, Operations Manager.
The visit provided an opportunity for both sides to engage in meaningful discussions on innovation, technology transfer, and responsible mining practices.
Delegates received an in-depth overview of Gold Fields’ operations, including its sustainability initiatives, environmental rehabilitation efforts, and community impact programmes. They also had the opportunity to introduce and pitch their businesses, fostering dialogue around potential partnerships to drive growth and value creation within Ghana’s mining sector.
The engagement concluded with a guided tour of the open pits and rehabilitated sites, where visitors observed Gold Fields’ large-scale operations and its strong emphasis on safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.
Delegates reportedly expressed admiration for the company’s commitment to responsible mining and sustainable development.
Gold Fields Ghana described the visit as an important step in deepening UK-Ghana trade relations in the mining industry, adding that such partnerships are key to unlocking innovation and long-term value creation across borders.
