The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has dismissed allegations that National Security operatives were involved in illegal mining activities along the River Ankobra in the Prestea enclave.
The allegations emerged following the arrest of some illegal miners on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, during anti-galamsey operations.
According to the Ministry, the suspects claimed their activities were being aided by certain National Security operatives operating in the area.
However, preliminary investigations conducted after the arrests established that the claims were “completely false, misleading and without any merit or basis whatsoever.”
In a statement issued on Friday(22 May), the Ministry noted that some illegal miners have developed a habit of making baseless accusations against state institutions and security agencies in attempts to evade accountability for unlawful activities.
The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) said it remains committed to identifying and prosecuting individuals falsely posing as National Security operatives.
The Ministry also commended National Security and other stakeholders for their continued collaboration and commitment in the ongoing fight against illegal mining across the country.
