The Government has revoked Executive Instrument (E.I.) 144, as amended by E.I. 234, restoring the Achimota Forest to its original status as a Forest Reserve.
Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, announced the decision during his mid-year sector performance review under the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday(15 July).
According to the Minister, Cabinet approved the revocation on June 24, 2026, a move that ensures the Achimota Forest remains a protected forest reserve and continues to serve as an ecological safety zone for Accra and its surrounding communities.
“I am happy to announce a historic Cabinet decision taken on the 24th of June 2026 to revoke Executive Instrument E.I. 144, as amended by E.I. 234, effectively ensuring that the Achimota Forest retains its original status as a Forest Reserve and provides an ecological safety zone for Accra and its environs,” Buah said.
The Minister also outlined other initiatives aimed at increasing revenue from Ghana’s forest and wildlife resources.
These include the completion of a 120-seat picnic area and a 10-unit chalet at the Shai Hills Resource Reserve, as well as a 20-room tourist accommodation facility and restaurant at Mole National Park.
