The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry has reaffirmed its commitment to driving industrial growth through agriculture as the West Africa Agri Show (WAAS 2025) opened in Accra on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, the Ministry’s Director in charge of Administration, Mr. Yaw Sekyi, highlighted government efforts to transform the agricultural value chain through strategic initiatives such as the Feed the Industry Programme, the Agribusiness Development and Value Extension Programme, and the Made-in-Ghana Campaign.
These interventions, he said, are designed to strengthen linkages between farmers, processors, and markets to ensure sustainable industrial growth.
He added that the Ministry is reviewing key frameworks, including the National Trade and Industrial Policies, and developing a new National Agribusiness Policy to align with emerging opportunities such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and digital trade.
Mr. Sekyi commended the organisers of WAAS 2025 for providing a platform that fosters dialogue, collaboration, and investment across the agricultural and industrial spectrum. He stressed that partnerships between government, the private sector, development partners, and investors are critical to achieving Ghana’s economic transformation agenda.
The opening ceremony featured a ribbon-cutting event, followed by a tour of exhibition stands, where dignitaries and participants engaged agribusiness stakeholders and explored innovations in the sector.
The two-day programme, held at the Accra International Conference Centre, has attracted policymakers, farmers, industry players, and investors to deliberate on the future of agriculture and agribusiness in Ghana and the West African sub-region.
