The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has inaugurated a 10-member Electricity Market Oversight Panel (EMOP) tasked with safeguarding the stability and efficiency of Ghana’s electricity market.
Speaking at the inauguration, Jinapor expressed confidence in the expertise of the panel members and pledged the Ministry’s full support to enable them to deliver on their mandate.
He charged the panel to review the operations, procedures, and manual of the wholesale electricity market to ensure it meets global best practices and serves the needs of all stakeholders.

“The government is committed to ensuring continuous stability and transparency in the energy sector. I am confident that this panel will play a critical role in achieving this objective,” the Minister stated.
Chairman of the panel, Samuel Sarpong, assured that the group would operate in strict compliance with the newly approved market rules, alongside existing policies and regulations governing the sector.

The 10-member panel comprises seasoned professionals in the energy industry, including Bernard Modey, Madam Eunice Biritwum, Kisman A. Eghan, Frank A. Yeboah, Richard N.A. Badger, Frank A. Otchere, Kwame Kpekpena, Mark Baah, and Dr. Shafic Suleman.
The EMOP is expected to strengthen oversight, enhance accountability, and promote transparency in Ghana’s electricity market, which is central to the country’s energy security and green transition agenda.
