Martin Kpebu, a prominent private legal practitioner, has suggested to the government to offload its interest in all non-performing state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in Ghana.
The lawyer is optimistic that selling such SOEs will help save cost and reduce the financial burden on the government.
Speaking to Kwaku Nhyira-Addo on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Tuesday (31 January), Kpebu said the non-performing SOEs must be sold to foreign firms.
“The state-owned enterprises, the loss-making ones, they can consider selling them, remember the divestiture programme? We can continue, because when this administration took over, they rather created about 70 more of such institutions,” he said.
“So, let’s cut down, let’s sell some to the pension fund,” he said. “No foreigners, you remember the PDS scandal. We don’t want it again. If it’s sold to Ghanaians we are fine and not one man as long as the ownership will be for the broad masses of the people.”
