The Minerals Commission and the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA) are exploring a strategic partnership to reclaim lands degraded by mining activities and promote their productive use for sustainable tree crop cultivation.
The proposed collaboration was discussed when a delegation from the TCDA, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Dr Andrews Osei Okrah, paid a courtesy call on the Minerals Commission to explore areas of institutional cooperation.
During the meeting, the TCDA outlined its mandate to regulate and create an enabling environment for the growth and development of the tree crops and industrial crops sectors, highlighting ongoing projects and proposed initiatives that could benefit from collaboration with the Minerals Commission.

The delegation identified the restoration and productive utilisation of degraded mining lands as a key area in which the two institutions could work together.
Welcoming the delegation, Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, Mr Isaac Tandoh, commended the TCDA’s initiatives and expressed the Commission’s readiness to explore areas of mutual cooperation.

He said land reclamation and environmental restoration were integral to the Commission’s mandate, citing interventions under its Alternative Livelihood Programme, which focuses on reclaiming degraded mining lands, promoting tree planting and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for mining communities.
Mr Tandoh stressed the importance of aligning the mandates and technical expertise of the two institutions to ensure that reclaimed lands are not only environmentally restored but also put to productive use through sustainable tree crop cultivation.

Such an approach, he said, could create long-term economic opportunities for communities affected by mining activities.
Both institutions expressed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in land reclamation, tree planting and sustainable livelihood development.
The proposed partnership is expected to support environmental restoration, agricultural development and economic empowerment, while contributing to responsible mineral resource management and the productive utilisation of land.
