The National Concerned Small-Scale Miners Association of Ghana (NCSSMAG) has launched an Anti-Galamsey Taskforce to help protect the country’s rivers and streams from illegal mining.
The taskforce, deployed across key mining areas, will monitor operations, enforce compliance, and promote responsible practices.
Members are also required to peer-review each other’s activities to strengthen accountability. A mini speedboat has been provided to aid river patrols.
The initiative complements government’s Blue Water Guards Initiative, led by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, which seeks to safeguard water bodies from destruction.

At the inauguration, NCSSMAG President, Michael Kwadwo Peprah — who also heads Venus Mining & Construction Limited in Ghana and Venus Gold in the UK — issued a firm warning:“All illegal mining operations on water bodies must stop immediately. The taskforce will not compromise in protecting our rivers for present and future generations.”
NCSSMAG reiterated its commitment to sustainable mining and pledged continued partnership with government and stakeholders to ensure Ghana’s resources benefit both present and future generations.
