The National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) has inaugurated a technical team to prepare Ghana for the economic and geopolitical shifts expected in the aftermath of the Iran war.
The initiative comes as the world grapples with new trade patterns and alliances, intensified by tariffs introduced by the Trump administration in early 2025. NDPC’s move signals Ghana’s determination to safeguard its economy against external shocks while positioning itself to seize emerging opportunities.
The team is chaired by Prof. William Baah-Boateng, economist and vice chancellor of Methodist University, who also serves on NDPC’s economic policy sub-committee.
The inauguration which was held on 7 May, was led by Dr. Nii Moi Thompson, NDPC chairman and senior advisor on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Dr. Thompson emphasized that the strategy will strengthen Ghana’s domestic production base, diversify exports, and build resilience against global economic disruptions.
He noted that the plan will also align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring that Ghana’s long-term development priorities remain intact.
The technical team will consult widely with government, academia, and private sector stakeholders to ensure the strategy reflects Ghana’s national interests.
NDPC expressed confidence that the plan will help Ghana navigate the post-war global economy and reinforce its role as a resilient player in international trade.
