One person has died and four others sustained injuries following a multiple-vehicle collision involving a fully loaded petrol tanker at Kaase near the Ghana Water Company in Kumasi on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
The accident occurred when the commercial fuel tanker, with registration number GT 5560-16, reportedly failed to ascend a steep gradient and rolled backward, crashing into three vehicles — a Mazda Van (AS 9412-10), a Toyota Vitz (GT 4275), and another Mazda Van (GW 5768-2).
Rescuers from the Kejetia Fire Post of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), led by Station Officer I (STNO I) Prince Osei, responded swiftly to a distress call received at 9:20 a.m. The team arrived promptly to rescue trapped victims and prevent a possible fire outbreak, given the involvement of a fuel tanker.
Four injured persons were rescued from the wreckage and transported to hospital for treatment. However, one person was pronounced dead at the scene. The body has since been handed over to the Police for preservation and further investigation.
Fire officers secured the accident scene and cleared the wreckage, restoring traffic flow by 10:30 a.m.
The GNFS has urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly when driving near heavy-duty vehicles on steep roads.
