PassionAir has issued a firm clarification following widespread online reports alleging that one of its domestic flights returned to base due to a fuel shortage.
The airline described the reports as false and misleading, urging the public to disregard the claims.
In an official press release issued on Saturday 31 May, PassionAir explained that Flight OP 122, which departed Accra for Takoradi at 06:18 a.m. on Saturday morning, returned to base six minutes after takeoff. The decision, the airline noted, was made by the flight captain in response to a technical indication in the flight deck—unrelated to fuel levels.
“The aircraft landed safely in Accra, and ground engineers immediately began diagnostics,” the statement read. “As per standard operating procedures, passengers were safely disembarked, and the issue was swiftly rectified.”
Once the technical fault was resolved and routine refueling procedures were completed, the aircraft was cleared for service. The rescheduled flight, OP 122A, proceeded without any incident, successfully transporting passengers to Takoradi.
PassionAir stressed that safety remains its highest priority, and all decisions made were in accordance with strict aviation regulations and protocols.
The airline concluded by apologizing to affected passengers for the inconvenience caused and expressed concern over the spread of inaccurate information. PassionAir called for responsible journalism and urged the public to rely on official communications for accurate updates.
“We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of our passengers and remain committed to safe and dependable service across Ghana,” the airline said.
