The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has announced an upward adjustment in electricity and water tariffs for the third quarter of 2026.
In a statement issued on Monday(22 June), the Commission said electricity tariffs have been increased by 3.49%, while water tariffs have been adjusted upward by 0.85%, effective July 1, 2026.
PURC explained that the quarterly tariff review mechanism is intended to track and incorporate changes in key economic and operational indicators that affect utility service delivery.
These include the Ghana cedi–US dollar exchange rate, inflation, fuel costs, and the electricity generation mix.
According to the Commission, the review was based on a projected exchange rate of GH¢11.2228 to US$1, representing a 0.2% depreciation of the cedi from the second quarter.
The average inflation rate applied for the review period was 3.43%, while the weighted average cost of natural gas increased by 1.58% to US$7.9708 per MMBtu.
PURC noted that the adjustments are aimed at ensuring the financial viability of utility service providers while minimizing the impact of tariff increases on consumers.
The new tariffs will take effect from July 1, 2026.
