Several people are feared dead following a five-vehicle crash at Etukrom, near Bonsu Junction on the N6 Accra-Kumasi Highway in the Eastern Region on Monday, August 3.
The crash involved a State Transport Company (STC) bus, two fuel tankers, a Sonata saloon car, and another vehicle. The STC bus was completely burnt in the collision, while one of the fuel tankers veered off the road and plunged into a nearby river.
The accident resulted in the temporary closure of the highway, causing a complete blockage of traffic in both the Accra- and Kumasi-bound directions.
The Eastern South Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) team from Kibi was deployed to the scene to manage the situation and direct traffic.
Police have temporarily diverted Accra-bound traffic through Kibi at Nsutam, while Kumasi-bound vehicles are being rerouted at Apedwa as emergency responders work at the scene and efforts continue to restore normal traffic flow.
The Ghana Police Service has urged motorists to cooperate with officers on duty and use the designated diversion routes. Authorities have not yet confirmed the number of casualties, but several people are feared dead. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
