Stanbic Bank Ghana and Mantrac Ghana have been awarded the Financial Deal of the Year at the 11th Ghana Mining Industry Awards (GMIA) for a landmark financing arrangement that is accelerating the shift toward sustainable mining in Ghana.
The two institutions were honoured for a US$30 million revolving facility that made it possible to import a new generation of sustainable, decarbonised mining equipment — including Africa’s first Caterpillar R2900XE electric-drive loader.
This equipment is expected to significantly improve environmental performance, bolster efficiency and reduce emissions across mining operations.
According to event officials, the winning transaction stood out for its impact on operational continuity, supply chain stability, job creation, and long-term sustainability within the mining sector.
The financing arrangement also enhanced local technical capacity and contributed to a stronger, more resilient mining ecosystem.
The award citation noted that the Stanbic–Mantrac partnership demonstrated how financial institutions can play a transformative role in shaping the future of responsible mining.
The recognition forms part of this year’s GMIA, held under the theme “Celebrating Excellence in Mining: Creating Value Beyond Minerals.”
The ceremony highlighted outstanding achievements across safety, innovation, technology, gender inclusion, community development and responsible mining practices.
