The Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission, Isaac Tandoh, has hosted a high-level delegation from the United States Department of the Treasury as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral economic cooperation and explore strategic collaboration in Ghana’s mining sector.
The US delegation, led by Alex Leipziger, Director of the Office of Africa, visited the Commission as part of broader US efforts to deepen economic ties with key regulatory institutions across Africa.
The engagement provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss developments in Ghana’s mining industry, regulatory and governance frameworks, and broader macroeconomic trends.
Mr Leipziger commended the Minerals Commission for its leadership in implementing policy and regulatory reforms in the mining sector.

He reiterated the US Treasury’s commitment to strengthening institutional partnerships, exploring areas of technical cooperation and facilitating access to capital mechanisms to support deeper economic collaboration between the United States and Ghana.
Mr Tandoh highlighted the Minerals Commission’s mandate as the statutory body responsible for regulating and promoting the sustainable development of Ghana’s mineral resources.

He said continued high-level engagement on investment frameworks, responsible sourcing, policy harmonisation and sustainable growth remained essential to maximising value across the mining value chain.
Mr Tandoh also briefed the delegation on new regulatory reforms, including the tracking of excavators and other earth-moving equipment.
He took the delegation to the Minerals Commission’s 24-hour tracking control room, where the movement of the machines is monitored in real time.

According to Mr Tandoh, 5,733 machines have so far been registered, with 2,058 currently being tracked from the control room.
The discussions highlighted the strategic importance of Ghana’s mineral resources to national economic development and the scope for further cooperation between Ghana and the United States in the mining sector.
