Cheng Chen Chin-Mei
In Taipei, a unique weightlifting competition for seniors aged 70 and above took place on December 21, where 90-year-old Cheng Chen Chin-Mei lifted a 35 kg (77 lb) bar with ease, inspiring the crowd.
Diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, Cheng Chen began weight training in 2023, encouraged by her granddaughter, and found it greatly improved her health.
The competition was organized by LKK Wellness to help seniors prevent muscle loss and reduce fall risks.
Taiwan’s elderly population is increasing, with the country expected to become a “super-aged society” in 2025.
