The Electoral Commission has confirmed the suspended its District Officer for Pusiga, Haruna Muniru.
It comes after investigations by the EC revealed 38 voter transfers took place in the Pusiga district illegally.
Addressing the media on Monday (2 September), the Deputy Chair of the Electoral Commission, Dr. Bossman Asare said the transfer happened through the use of credentials of an Electoral Officer, adding that the records of the said transfer were captured in the voter management systems audit blocks.
“Following this incident, the Commission has introduced a liveliness check in the verification process which is a feature designed to ensure that the biometric data being captured is from a live present human being and not from a spruced source such us photographs which was what was done in this case,” he said.
“Preliminary investigation by the Commission have revealed that voter transfer were indeed effected for 38 individuals using the credentials of Electoral Commission official. The records of those transfer are captured in the voter management systems audit blocks,” he added.
Meanwhile The Electoral Commission (EC) has introduced a new feature to authenticate voters in the verification process.
This liveliness check in the process of the verification of voters comes after the illegal transfer of 38 voters in Pusiga.
The new feature is to cross check the biometric data of voters and ensure its authenticity.
