The Accra East Regional Task Force of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has disconnected power supply to Rehobot Social Housing at Kweiman in Dodowa after uncovering multiple illegal electricity connections within the facility.
The enforcement operation, which forms part of ECG’s intensified efforts to combat power theft and revenue losses, revealed widespread unauthorised connections at the construction site.
One construction worker was arrested in connection with the illicit activity as investigations continue to identify other culprits involved in bypassing ECG’s metering systems.
Officials from ECG expressed deep concern about the prevalence of illegal connections in newly developing residential areas, warning that the practice poses significant safety risks and undermines the financial sustainability of the national utility provider.
ECG Revenue Mobilization Drive
The disconnection forms part of a nationwide revenue mobilization exercise, scheduled from Monday, 16 June to Friday, 27 June 2025. In an official statement issued on Tuesday, 11 June, ECG announced that the exercise will target all categories of customers in arrears, including private consumers, businesses, and government institutions.
The power distributor has advised all indebted customers to settle their outstanding bills immediately to avoid disconnection and additional costs related to reconnection.
“The ECG wishes to inform all customers in arrears to pay their bills now to avoid disconnection,” the statement said.
