Power outages hit Accra after heavy rains; ECG working with NADMO on restoration

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a collaborative effort with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to restore electricity supply to areas affected by severe flooding in the Greater Accra Region. The floods followed a heavy rainstorm that hit the region on Sunday, 18th May 2025, resulting in power outages and significant infrastructure disruption.

According to ECG, NADMO directed that power be isolated in several communities as a safety precaution due to the extent of flooding. The affected areas include:

Borteyman Stadium, Affordable Housing, Borteyman Township, Little Roses, Lakeside, Nanakrom, Kissieman, Dome Pillar 2, Christian Village, School Junction, School Junction Melcom, Nmaidzor Zoomlion, University Farms, Trasacco 3rd Gate, Legon Hill, Suntoe, Blue Kiosk, Adenta ECG Office, and Madina Islamic University.

In a statement issued on Monday, 19th May, ECG assured the public that it is working closely with NADMO to follow all safety directives before restoring electricity to the affected zones.

“ECG is collaborating with the NADMO team for their directives before power supply is restored,” the statement read.

The utility provider is also urging residents to report any localized outages, fallen poles, or sagging conductors within their vicinity. Customers can contact the ECG Call Center on 0302-611611, visit the nearest ECG office, or reach out via the company’s social media handles (@ECGghOfficial) on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), or Instagram for immediate assistance.

The recent flooding has once again highlighted the vulnerability of urban infrastructure to extreme weather events in Accra, prompting renewed calls for improved drainage systems and emergency preparedness.
