The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has said there is no fire incident near the Akosombo Dam contrary to videos circulating on social media.
This is in reference to a viral video circulating on social media, depicting a major bushfire on a hilly mountainous terrain in Akosombo, which has been misinterpreted as a fire burning around the Akosombo Dam.
GNFS says the fire seen in the video is absolutely nowhere near the Akosombo Dam.
It however, said the situation is still being closely monitored by its personnel, who have been put on high alert.
”Unfortunately, due to the inaccessible terrain, our team is currently unable to reach the location to fight the fire. Nevertheless, we are working closely with local authorities and stakeholders to ensure that the situation does not escalate to residential or commercial facilities,” it said.
According to GNFS, to ensure the safety of the Akosombo Dam and surrounding communities, it has stationed personnel around the dam to monitor the situation and respond quickly in case of any developments.
It further advised the public to remain calm and rest assured that the fire poses no threat to the Akosombo Dam whatsoever.
”There is no cause for alarm, and we will continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent any potential spread,” it said.
