The construction of the Mumbwa Gold Marketing Centre in Zambia’s Central Province has been completed and the facility is now ready for commissioning.
Tonlex Investments Limited, the contractor for the project, confirmed the development following an inspection by a team of experts from the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development ahead of the official handover.
The centre is expected to provide a structured and regulated platform for artisanal and small-scale miners to sell gold, helping to protect them from exploitation and unfair pricing practices.

The initiative forms part of the Zambian government’s broader strategy to formalise the mining sector and improve transparency in mineral trading.
Authorities say similar gold marketing centres are being developed across the country to support small-scale miners and strengthen oversight in the gold value chain.

The inspection team included officials from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Urban Development, the Mineral Regulation Commission, and the Zambia Revenue Authority, reflecting a coordinated multi-agency approach to the project.

Once operational, the Mumbwa Gold Marketing Centre is expected to play a key role in enhancing traceability, boosting government revenue, and promoting fair trade practices within Zambia’s artisanal mining sector.
