The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana’s Minerals Commission Martin Ayisi has said government will introduce a new mining policy this year.
According to Ayisi, consultation with various key stakeholders are still ongoing to fine tune aspects of the new policy.
The new policy is expected to address some existing gaps in the country’s mining sector to make it more attractive for investors.
Contributing to a panel discussion on the topic ”Expanding Africa’s Mining Support Services through an Industrial Policy Mindset on the sidelines of this year’s Mining Indaba in Cape Town on Wednesday(5 February), Ayisi said the policy is likely to be introduced in six months.
”I think this first quarter or so, if you like, for the next six months, we’ll introduce a new mining policy. We are still yet to conclude consultations here and there, and also introduce a new law.”
” A lot of discussions have been done, at least those of you from industry and civil society have been consulted. We are just left with some institutions, shifts and go, and we are good to go. So some of these things will now be picked up in a more appropriate way,” Ayisi said.
