Kwame Eshun, a concerned citizen, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to intervene over alleged illegal mining (galamsey) activities taking place in broad daylight near the main Kumasi road at Konongo in the Ashanti Region.
In an open appeal to the President, Eshun questioned the effectiveness of regional authorities and local security agencies in addressing illegal mining, calling for immediate action to halt the operations and hold those responsible accountable.
Below is the Letter
Your Excellency President John Dramani Mahama
I am writing to bring an urgent matter of national concern to your immediate attention. Earlier today, while driving through Konongo on the main Kumasi road, I witnessed illegal mining operations taking place in broad daylight, mere meters from the highway.
The sheer audacity of these operations occurring so openly along a major transit corridor raises severe questions regarding the vigilance and effectiveness of regional authorities, including the Ashanti Regional Minister, REGSEC, and local security apparatuses.
When illegal mining moves from remote bushes to the roadside in plain view of the public, it signals a systemic failure that threatens our environment and undermines public trust in governance.
As a concerned citizen committed to our nation’s well-being, I urge your office to initiate immediate intervention to halt these activities, hold responsible parties accountable, and ensure regulatory authorities uphold their mandate without compromise.
On a lighter note, Mr. President, it appears the situation on the ground requires swift cleaning up, as wakyi gu ho.
Respectfully yours,
Kwame Eshun
Proud Nationalist
