Heath Goldfields Ltd has confirmed that three illegal miners have died after infiltrating an inactive section of the company’s underground operations on its Prestea concession.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, 19th November 2025, the company explained that preliminary investigations show the individuals gained access to a restricted area of the mine through unauthorized routes, where they were subsequently trapped.
Heath Goldfields extended its condolences to the affected families and the broader Prestea community, describing the incident as tragic and deeply painful. “Every loss of life, regardless of circumstance, is painful and we stand with the affected families in grief and sympathy,” the statement said.
The company noted that it is cooperating fully with the Ghana Police Service, the Minerals Commission, and the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) to facilitate ongoing investigations and support recovery efforts. Management commended the swift response and professionalism of the authorities involved.
Affirming its commitment to safety, Heath Goldfields stated that it continues to enforce stringent security and safety protocols across all its concessions to prevent unauthorized entry and safeguard human lives.
The company also assured traditional authorities, community members, regulators and partners of its dedication to responsible mining, community engagement and the protection of livelihoods.
Heath Goldfields added that its community relations team is actively engaging local leaders and providing assistance to families affected by the incident.
