Chilean state-owned copper producer Codelco has terminated the employment of eight executives and professionals following investigations into irregularities in the registration and reporting of production figures for 2024 and 2025.
The company said its board of directors took the decision after receiving new information from internal audits and external reviews commissioned from auditing firms KPMG and EY.
The affected employees worked in the Chuquicamata, Ministro Hales and Salvador divisions, as well as Codelco’s corporate headquarters.
Those dismissed include the general manager of the Salvador Division; the corporate manager of Mining Resources and Development at the head office; and the managers of Mining Resources and Development at the Ministro Hales, Salvador and Chuquicamata divisions.
The list also includes the head of Metallurgical Valuation at the corporate Accounting Management, the superintendent of Smelter Operations at the Salvador Division, and the head of Quality and Metallurgical Balance at the Ministro Hales Division.
Codelco said the dismissals form part of a broader management review and strengthening process aimed at identifying and correcting deficiencies, reinforcing internal controls and safeguarding the integrity and reliability of corporate information.
The company stressed that the decision was taken in accordance with its internal regulations and applicable laws, but noted that the ongoing investigations could establish other forms of liability.
It also reserved the right to pursue legal action to protect its interests.
