A Chinese national, Yao Xian, aged 52, has been tragically shot dead at Manso Watreso, a mining community in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred around 11am on Friday (30 August) when Yao was reportedly riding his motorbike along the Watreso road. He was later found by authorities in a nearby bush with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Crime scene investigators found Yao clad in a club T-shirt and black trousers, with blood still oozing from the deep wound, a police incident report sighted by Asaase News indicated.

Despite efforts to save his life, Yao was pronounced dead upon arrival at St. Martin’s Catholic Hospital in Agroyesum. His body has since been preserved at the hospital morgue, awaiting autopsy.

Investigations have led to the arrest of three suspects who were identified as employees of the deceased.

They have been named as Kwadwo Mensah, 32, Robert Agyei, 29 and Abdullah Mohammed, 45.

The suspects gave conflicting accounts during interrogation, raising further suspicion.

A search of their residences led to the discovery of a pump-action gun with serial number ASAR 2883 2014 and seven rounds of live ammunition in the possession of suspect Robert Agyei.

Although Agyei initially claimed the gun had never been fired, police examination revealed otherwise.

When confronted with this evidence, Agyei was unable to provide an explanation. The gun has been retained by the police as evidence, and all three suspects remain in custody as the investigation continues.
