A special anti-galamsey operation by the NAIMOS Taskforce on Saturday, 6 December 2025, led to the arrest of nine Chinese nationals engaged in illegal mining activities at Dadieso in the Suaman District of the Western North Region.
The operation, conducted at about 11:50 a.m., forms part of the ongoing intensified crackdown on illegal mining across the Western and Western North Regions.
Upon arrival at the site, the taskforce encountered the Chinese nationals actively operating an illegal mining setup along the Bia River.
According to officials, the activities of the suspects had severely polluted the Bia River, posing grave environmental and public health risks to communities that depend on the water body for domestic use and agriculture.
As part of the operation, the taskforce destroyed several pieces of heavy-duty equipment used for the illegal mining activities.
These included Chanfang machines, heavy pumping machines, and makeshift structures serving as operational bases for the miners. The equipment was reportedly destroyed beyond repair to prevent any further use in illegal mining.
