GoldBod
The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) generated $1.871 billion in foreign exchange (FX) from its artisanal and small-scale mining gold trade operations in September 2026, exceeding its monthly target of $1.4 billion by $471 million.
GoldBod said $701.3 million of the amount was sold to authorised commercial banks, slightly above its $700 million target, to support stability in the foreign exchange market.
A further $1.170 billion was provided to the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to support the accumulation of foreign exchange reserves.
GoldBod said the FX sales were conducted under its mandate in the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).
In August, GoldBod generated $1.315 billion in FX, including $668.21 million sold to commercial banks and $646.59 million made available to the BoG for reserve accumulation.
For October, GoldBod has set an FX generation target of $1.5 billion, with $1 billion earmarked for commercial banks and up to $500 million for the BoG’s reserves.
The board said the October programme would operate under its new Spot FX Sales/Intermediation Framework, with GoldBod assuming full responsibility for FX intermediation following the exit of the BoG from that role.
GoldBod said it would continue working with stakeholders to implement its FX generation and sales programme.
