The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has issued a public warning to businesses, institutions, and the general public over the activities of individuals falsely presenting themselves as officials of the Authority.
In a public notice dated January 26, 2026, the EPA said it has received reports that some individuals have been visiting business premises and impersonating EPA officials.
The Authority described the practice as fraudulent and said it undermines the integrity of its operations.
The EPA clarified that its field officers conducting compliance, enforcement, or monitoring activities do not visit facilities without proper identification.
According to the Authority, all officers on official duty are required to present EPA staff identification cards, official letters of introduction clearly stating their affiliation, and must operate with branded EPA vehicles and wear branded EPA reflective vests.
The Authority has therefore strongly advised the public not to grant access, make payments, or provide information to any person who fails to produce the required official credentials.
It further urged companies and institutions to verify the identity of anyone claiming to represent the EPA before engaging with them.
