Government has expressed disappointment over Organized Labour’s decision to proceed with a nationwide strike scheduled for October 10, despite their recent meeting and agreement to combat illegal mining, also known as galamsey.
Organized Labour had called for government to address the galamsey menace which has recently resulted in pollution of water bodies by the end of September.
Among others they have also called on the president to declare a state of emergency on illegal mining to fix the challenge.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Information on Monday (7 October) expressed surprise by Labour’s decision to go ahead with the strike despite an earlier meeting which outlined a raft of measures government is taking to fix the challenge.
