Gold Fields Ghana’s Tarkwa Mine recorded remarkable success at the 11th Ghana Mining Industry Awards (GMIA), with its Mine Manager, Dr. Catherine Kuupol Kutor, achieving a historic milestone by becoming the first woman to be named Mining Personality of the Year (The President’s Award).
Her recognition celebrates her exemplary leadership and outstanding contribution to the mining sector in 2024.
The achievements continued as Rosina Essel-Moses, Senior Procurement Officer at the Tarkwa Mine, was awarded 1st Runner-Up for Female Mining Professional of the Year (Non-Technical). Tarkwa Mine also earned top honours for its community and sustainability initiatives.
Its Tarkwa & Abosso Stadium project, funded with US$16.2 million by the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, was adjudged Corporate Social Investment Project of the Year due to its significant socio-economic impact.
The mine further placed as 1st Runner-Up in Diversity and Inclusion and 2nd Runner-Up for Best Green Mine, underscoring its commitment to sustainable and inclusive mining practices.
In the youth category, Sharon Panin Amoesi, a pupil of Tarkwa Goldfields JHS, won the inter-mines first aid and safety essay competition, demonstrating the company’s influence in promoting education and safety awareness in host communities.
Gold Fields Ghana noted that these recognitions reflect its sustained dedication to leadership, socio-economic development, diversity, and environmental sustainability.
The Ghana Mining Industry Awards, organised annually by the Ghana Chamber of Mines, celebrates excellence, innovation, safety, and professionalism across the mining sector.
