The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) are working to strengthen joint efforts against gold smuggling, money laundering and other illicit financial flows linked to Ghana’s gold sector.
The two institutions held a high-level meeting under the Ghana-UK Gold Programme to discuss the development of a GoldBod-EOCO Operational Collaboration Framework.
The proposed framework is intended to strengthen coordination between the institutions in identifying and disrupting activities associated with gold-related financial crimes.
The collaboration will focus on stronger information sharing, coordinated enforcement and closer institutional cooperation to address illicit activities within the gold value chain.
GoldBod and EOCO said the initiative reflects their shared commitment to protecting the integrity of Ghana’s gold sector and preventing criminal networks from exploiting the country’s mineral resources.
The framework is also expected to support efforts to improve transparency and accountability within the gold trade while helping Ghana retain greater economic value from its gold resources.
The collaboration forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s institutional response to gold smuggling and illicit financial flows and to build a more transparent and resilient gold sector.
