The National Inter-Agency Mining Operations Special Taskforce (NAIMOS) has apprehended 10 armed individuals masquerading as an Anti-Galamsey task force in the Nyankamam-Armori forest of the Aowin Municipality in the Western North Region.
The suspects are alleged to have claimed links with the Aowin Paramount Chief and reportedly operated with impunity, extorting money from illegal miners (galamseyers) while effectively encouraging unlawful mining activities in the area.
During the operation, the taskforce seized weapons and traditional talismans from the suspects, who are now in custody and will be handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further action.

NAIMOS reiterated its commitment to ending illegal mining and ensuring that individuals who exploit the sector for personal gain face the full weight of the law.
