One person has died following the collapse of a building under construction near Terminal 3 of the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.
The incident occurred on Friday, June 20, 2025, at around 3:36 PM.
A total of seven people were involved in the accident. Three were rescued by members of the public before the arrival of emergency responders. The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), which led the coordinated rescue effort, successfully extricated two more victims from the rubble. Another two individuals were later retrieved during the operation.
The injured were rushed to the hospital, where one of them unfortunately passed away.
The GNFS-led operation lasted about seven hours and was carried out in collaboration with site workers, the facility’s management, and other relevant agencies. The scene was secured to prevent further danger and ensure the safety of rescue teams and the public.
The GNFS has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property through prompt, professional, and coordinated emergency response. An investigation into the cause of the collapse is expected to follow.
