One shot dead at Kasoa-Nyanyano over chieftaincy installation

One person has been shot dead at Kasoa Nyanyano in the central region.

The deceased , Kofi Abasa , a 75-year-old man met his untimely death during the installation of a chief in the town as he was hit by a stray bullet and pronounced dead on arrival by medical officers at the Kasoa Health Centre.

The installation ceremony turned chaotic when some family members from the three gates that qualify to nominate a candidate for installation kicked against the latest nominee for the stool thereby moving in to stop his installation and subsequent coronation.

The attempt to stop the installation was met with opposition by family members and supporters of the nominee with the installation process degenerating into violence.

The situation caused the police to be brought to the scene to contain the melee with patrol teams being deployed in all corners of the town to curtail any eventuality.

The police have since commenced investigations into the matter to help bring an end to the turmoil erupting in the area while the body of the deceased has also been deposited at the Kasoa Hospital Morgue for autopsy and preservation.
