Ghana’s passport acquisition system is set for another major reform as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration launches a 1-Day Passport Delivery Service, the first of its kind in the country.
Announcing the initiative on Facebook on November 11, Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa described it as part of ongoing “bold and innovative passport reforms” aimed at improving efficiency and meeting the urgent needs of citizens.
The new service, which begins Thursday, November 13, 2025, will cater specifically to emergency cases such as last-minute travel needs and medical emergencies. Applicants who require their passports on the same day will be able to access the expedited process under special charges.
Ablakwa emphasized that the standard GHC350 application fee remains unchanged for regular applicants, guaranteeing passport delivery in less than 15 days. The new expedited option, he said, is “strictly for same-day deliveries.”
“This is a super expedited solution to take care of all emergencies — from discovering your passport has expired on your way to the airport to dealing with a medical situation. We have got you covered,” Ablakwa stated.
