Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has criticised Nigeria‘s persistent electricity outages, questioning why households and businesses continue to experience unreliable power supply despite substantial investments in the country’s power sector.
In a video statement, Henshaw expressed frustration over the state of electricity supply in 2026, claiming that power in her area comes on for only a few minutes before going off again.
“There are no lights. There have hardly been any lights. The power comes on, perhaps for five minutes, and then it goes off,” she said.
She also challenged claims that some electricity consumers had asked authorities to reduce power supply because their freezers were freezing their contents.
Henshaw demanded that the names and contact details of those alleged consumers be made public, questioning why households would request reduced electricity supply when many were struggling with persistent outages.
She said the unreliable supply had forced households to invest in alternative sources of electricity, including generators, inverters and solar power, while still receiving electricity bills from distribution companies.
“Everybody is trying to generate their own power. Then, after all that, the distribution company comes and brings you a bill. What exactly are you people doing?” she asked.
The actress further questioned the billions and trillions of naira reportedly invested in the power sector, arguing that such spending had not translated into reliable electricity supply for consumers.
She also criticised the continued challenges facing the sector despite previous increases in electricity tariffs, insisting that consumers were still not receiving dependable power.
