The National Anti-illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) Task Force has launched a dawn operation targeting a notorious illegal mining enclave known as “Yellow Face” at Wassa Abrehyia in the Western Region.
The unannounced operation caught residents and illegal miners off guard, prompting galamsey operators to flee the area to avoid arrest.
The task force moved in immediately, dismantling the site and burning makeshift structures along with equipment believed to have been used for the illegal mining activities.
The raid also uncovered widespread use of illicit drugs and dynamites at the location, underscoring growing security and public health risks associated with illegal mining operations.
According to NAIMOS, similar targeted operations will continue in the coming days and weeks as part of a broader crackdown aimed at disrupting illegal mining networks and curbing the associated drug menace in affected communities.
